Sometimes we have bad luck and from time to time we have good luck. Some bird had bad luck. I saw soft white feathers on a footpath. What sort of bird was it? It could be a pigeon or, perhaps, the white peahen. There are hungry foxes all around us. Often they will rob a hen-house. Some other birds have white feathers – seagulls for example. They have more white feathers than pigeons, but I’ve never seen any gulls by the house.

I have a cold; a cough, a sore throat, a headache and a streaming nose. I am feeling ill. I can’t go to a committee meeting in Baldhu, nor see my grandchildren, nor go to my writers’ group in Falmouth. I am not happy - and neither is the dog happy – he hasn’t had a walk. I didn’t go out today; I stayed in bed. I saw this lovely tree on Saturday. Some people call it a tulip tree, because its flowers are large and fleshy. There are daffodils growing by a stream. There are reflections in the water. In another little field, one sheep has three lambs and another sheep has twins.

An interesting day – St Piran’s Day as well as Shrove Tuesday. What to eat today? The day tomorrow will be Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent – a time to avoid rich food. Will you give up anything for Lent? Anyway, Shrove Tuesday is a day for eating a lot. It’s Pancake Day. This year it coincides with St Piran’s Day. I didn’t eat a single pancake, but I ate saffron buns and heavy (hevva) cake. I went to the university in Penryn for a seminar "Cornish Maritime Churches". Roger Smith spoke about Tywardreath (The House on the Strand) and an old priory there. I had to go home before the next talk because of the dog at home. I didn't take my camera, therefore I have no new photos. However, I found my "lost" photos. Here are the men with their long ladder by the very tall hedge.

My friend has done this picture with acrylic paints on canvas. She used a palette knife as well as large and small paint brushes. The style is impressionistic. In the image there is the sea with big waves, a sandy beach with some seaweed and driftwood on the tide-line (high tide mark). We can see a half-submerged rock in foaming surf. The coast is in the distance, so we could be in a bay. The sun is shining on that distant coast, therefore we are looking towards the north. There are no long shadows so it must be in the middle of the day.

Did you read my blog yesterday? Did you notice something missing? Where are the photos? I wrote about photos and there aren't any photos at all there. I deleted my photos accidentally (without meaning to do it). What a pity! I didn't take any photos today and I didn't go out. I was a babysitter and the weather wasn't good. My grandchildren ate me out of house and home! I must go shopping tomorrow.I have lots of old photos; I can use one or two. Do you like these spring flowers - camellia, celandines and violet?

A storm is coming, according to the weather forecast. It is already windy. We had a lovely day yesterday, a good day to do work in gardens. This house has a very big hedge - very big and too big. The home owners needed to cut it. They didn't cut it themselves. These men were hired to cut the hedge for them. They had a very long ladder. How fortunate there was no wind yesterday. Work like that would not be possible today. They had a little truck to carry away all the cut branches and shoots.

St Piran came to his cove today. He was welcomed by school children from the nearby Perranporth school with songs and chanting. They shouted, “Fair play is beautiful play” and "Cornwall for ever". The choir sang a song about Cornwall. All the children danced around the green. They were dressed as miners and bal maidens. Then the older children danced round the maypole with ribbons.
